Message I've been running breather filters off the cam cover tubes for years. You do not have to constantly clean them as you say. No more cleaning than you would the regular air filter.

Running the filters like I have keeps the oily vapors from being introduced into my intake tract. I'd rather clean filters than clean oil residue out of the accordian pipes.

Finally, you would not be running lean at idle or cruise because you are introducing unmetered air for crankcase ventilation which is separate from the intake tract.
